Needing new management. This place has gone down hill in a hurry since new management took over. Stayed there for two weeks March of 2014. Had a very unruly homeless Vet stay next door at the tent facility who fought on two evenings with his sponsor who lived in town. This homeless Vet slept in his car and when it was cold he slept in the laundry room. Had a dependent take his dog during lunch hour, without a leash poop in full view of all the parked RV's and never picked up the dog's poop. A filthy place to stay as this person took his dog in a park area where all the campers sat and watched the scenery of ships going by. Appears this dependent has done this on numerous occasions since he cussed like a drunken sailor when approached to take care of his dog's poop. Pelican Roost has gone down hill and management needs to "rein in the stirrups" and monitor the park area and tent area much closer of the undesirable tenants and visitors to the park across the street.
I gave the Rv park ground short notice for a reservation, and they were able to provide me with a spot, and i thanked them. I did ask if i would have a view of the river, and her response was yes. The day i arrived to check in ,i was greeted by a lady named Jean, and assigned a spot. I was not given a welcome aboard package,or told anything about the area.I had to ask for everything,my package, information about the area. She seemed like she wanted to be some place else. I went to my assigned spot, and what was i greeted by, two ball parks, I had to back into my spot, which is fine. I was assisted by the host named Ed(nice guy). The sewer connection was located about 20' from my rig and ran up hill. Needless to say,it was unusable, but i was charged for it!!!! The problem with this park is,if you are not assigned to the front row or close by,you have no view. In order to get those spots, you have to be in the click, like most military rv parks are. Do not expect anything from this place,if you are not in the know(click).I will say Ed and Woody were very helpful,in answering my question, about the area. However Jean, all she wanted to do was sell her little, worthless, junk,on Saturday mornings at the parks little get together. Must be some kind of get together for the click at the park. By the way,i left a day early, and on the way out i used the common dump station. W.Ray Wyatt USN Retired STSCS(SS)
Overall, this park is ok. The park is in a nice location and the bathrooms and facilities were clean. The only major flaw during my visit was the rude and unprofessional civilian attendant. Costumer service makes a big difference and I’m sorry to say that I was not impressed with it at Mayport NAS and the Pelican Roost at all.
Terrible!! It is 0124 and I am up writing a review on this campsite because some pinhead put us in lot 43 which is right at the ballfield where there is an all night baseball tournament taking place. We drove 8 hours to get here and now we can't sleep. Of course, tomorrow will be a bust because we didn't get any sleep tonight. So much for R&R. This was our mini vacation that we paid for, but we get nothing. I wouldn't come back to this place if it was the only safe place in a nuclear holicost.
Nice location; interesting watching the ships go in and out and the firefighting school next door was really fun. We found staff and (especially) volunteers helpful. Constant (and I mean constant) threats of being thrown out of CG for any and all "offenses" REALLY got on my nerves - felt like I had to be looking over my shoulder the whole time. The posted in writing threat from the manager to bar you from not just this CG, but ALL military Famcamps if you transgress got my attention - I thought it was kind of funny, actually. Other (apparently long term) campers (not staff or volunteers) see themselves as CG Police and won't hesitate to tell you what to do - like the fella who supervised me doing laundry, telling me what I could and couldn't put in the dryer (incorrectly as it turns out.) Or the lady who reported my wife because she was sitting outside with our 14 lb dog in her lap without a leash. Your dogs are NOT welcome here - they're allowed, but they certainly aren't welcome, if you see what I mean. As one staff member put it "the manager is anal about dogs." We probably won't go back here - don't have any problem with rules and regulations but this place really gets carried away.
