Stayed there twice this summer. First time we stayed in the lower section. Even with the staff cleaning the bathrooms daily the bathrooms were dingy and rusted. Bugs made it into the facilities quickly after cleaning. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful; very customer oriented. The hours of operation weren't very helpful but if a staff member was in the office on a closed day they opened the door and helped you. When we first got to Fayetteville we were a bit lost. One of the staff actually drove to the entrance of the rec area (2-3 miles) to wave us down as we drove by. Very helpful. The second time we stayed on the upper end of the area. This area has newer facilities; clean. The electricity went out one day, 90+ degrees outside. It took several hours for the tech came out for the fix. There seems to be some great water sports/ beach area at the rec area. We didn't use them but I saw people using a large water skiing machine. We were pretty close to the base and the BX/commissary facilities; both of which area very good. We will stay there again.
Been there several times. Staff is always friendly, site is always clean. Wide concrete pads - a bit unleveled but very usable. Kids moved to the Fayetteville area so this is very handy for us. A few buts: But 1: Dirt road leading into the sites. Always covered with dust after just going pads. But 2: Laundry room and shower facilities (lower level) are dated and worn. Only 2 washers and dryers. Shower facilites on upper level are new and roomy. ut 3B: Not much else going on for outdoor activities (Lake Smith facilities were being repaired this year).
If you follow the directions on the Military Famcamp website, it's easy to find. We called ahead for reservations so check-in was easy. There are only 5 pull-thrus on their map. Roads are sandy. Pull-thru pads are concrete and level surrounded by sand and lots of pine trees. No wifi, no cable. No dog park but plenty of woods to walk them. Office staff was helpful & professional. Hookups were a little far. Nice place for 1-2 nights at $25 for 50 amp, full hookups.

Please use the directions to the Fam Camp from this site otherwise the directions in the Military RV book are wrong. The gravel roads leading into the RV park get old and when people drive by everything gets very dusty. Nice concrete pads and nice setting amongst the pine trees. Only two washer/dryers but wasn't a problem except very small room. We would only stay one night or two in the future.

Rates have increased to $25 per night and $23 per night with senior access / America the beautiful card. However when you present your card for the discount, they look at it and tell you it doesn't say camping on the back, and no discount available. After calling America the beautiful to inquire about the card, they told us we had the most current card, and they do not mention the word camping on the card. Explained to staff at campground, but fell on deaf ears. So rates have increased $7 per night from our last visit here 3 months ago. However, no change in services , NO wifi, NO cable, and a dust bowl getting to campsites from the office.
If anyone has complaints about the office staff, please go to this site and let Command know. If we all make our complaints here and it falls on deaf ears, we will not get resolution. Good luck! https://ice.disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=card&sp=81393&s=249&dep=*DoD&sc=15

This was our second stay at Smith Lake. 1) We arrived a couple of hours before the posted Check-In time and had to wait until Check-In time to be given our site assignment. There was plenty of parking area for us to wait in. So, just a note, you can arrive early, there is plenty of room to have a comfortable wait, but you can not check-in. 2) When allowed to Check-In there was some problems with my reservation. I do not believe this to be recurring problem, but you may want to confirm your reservations a few days after you make them. 3) My final concern is more of a safety issue. I ride a motorcycle, the roads are gravel, very steep, curved, and posted as "One Way". On two occasions, I was driving my motorcycle down a steep, gravel, curved road when a government-owned ATV came around the corner going the wrong way and at a very brisk pace. I was able to apply my brakes slowly and avoid the tires locking up, sliding over the gravel and causing damage to motorcycle and myself. If the park reads these reviews, "Please abide by your own speed limits and road signs. NOW THE GOOD. It is a very nice place to stay. It is like real camping. The setting is peaceful. The shower facilities are good. It is a bit dusty, but not as bad as some places. When planning your trips into Fort Bragg and Fayetteville, please note that many things are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Overall a great place.
We enjoyed our stay. We have a 34' TT. Pads (at least on the upper loop) were very level, easy to back into and spacious. Our 3 granddaughters were with us and enjoyed the "woods" experience. Would have been better but the water facilities were closed. Only real down side - unpaved road. The speed limit is very slow but I don't care how slow you go - DUST!
Oh buyer beware!!! I used to love this place and then there's the office staff, specifically Jessica and a David, not that the manager is any better!!! These folks cover each others poor manners and lack of respect. I have had problems with all 3 of these lovely folks! It floors me how the speak to people let alone treat them! I still really love this place, the small cabins are great experience and the kids love it! The large cabins are just as well, although you can hear right through the walls and there is only one bathroom, still a good choice, full kitchen a plus! Value is good..... The amenities were great until they started to charge, you have to pay per person too. A bit annoying but, I can understand why they did it..... If you can totally ignore the poor form of the office staff this is still a great place to camp out and have some family fun.

Overall a nice campground. Tv reception not so good when the Helicopters were flying. Mostly at night until 22:00 hrs. When I left they were removing the lower concrete pads and replacing with new. Close to shopping commissary and PX were a few miles away.
