J.L. left this review using the Directory software: - Stayed here briefly last year and so loved walking along the salt marsh and beach that I wanted to return and stay longer. Only this year, I really felt the negative impact of some of the management issues. The lock box seems to be corroding with age and causing problems. I had trouble opening my assigned box, and also tried in vain to help others who were totally unsuccessful in opening theirs after hours (so never had utilities). There is no welcome packet in the box, just a key, so you're left to figure things out yourself. The combination to the restroom and laundry is posted on the wall (so why bother?). The facilities seem to be cleaned only on Monday, and although 3 extra rolls of toilet paper were left, this is hardly enough for the week. The manager does not return calls in a tmely fashion. It was almost a week before she called me back, and some calling about a site the same day never heard if one is available (and many sites were open). The manager's response, when you do talk with her, suggests that reservations are very tight, but it was never more than half occupied when I was here (5 nights). It's such a lovely location and decent facilities. With very little extra effort, it could be a real plus. At a minimum, 1) service or update the lock box facility 2) leave welcome sheets in the box and not posted, and 3) consider instead having an on-site host and non-site specific reservations. That could permit more campers to make use of the facility, increase revenue, and make eveyone feel more welcomed and oriented to the facility.

The pros: the campsites are a nice size with full hookups and they are level. We made our reservation 30 days in advance over the phone since there is no office or host in the campground. The office sent a couple to our door who told us we were in there site, also the office told them vagrants pulled in the campground all the time. There were several empty sites and these people thought we were just going to move. We had made a reservation and were given the site # we were in, the office had the dates wrong. Going by the day our credit card was processed we couldn't have made it on the dates they had down. Someone from the office called but never apologized for sending this couple to our door. I advised the office I didn't feel comfortable with these people in the site next to us and she said there was plenty of room for us to get along. These people ending up staying several sites down. We have no plans to ever go back to this campground. I generally try to give positive feedback for our stays, but our treatment here was not good.

Call before you arrive because there is no onsite support. When we first arrived, the GPS took us through the old RV site so we were quite shocked. The 6 digit combo they will give you is for a lock box located in the hallway of the restroom facility. Instructions were on the side of the box, key was inside that opens the locks to the power/water hook up. Cell service worked in some areas, Internet - my Virgin Mobile Mifi 2200 worked well, no local Mi-Fi at the ite. Digital TV scan using roof mounted antenna got me 3 local channels. Facility was new and clean. MCX and commissary nearby. MCX has a Redbox out front to rent movies. Museum on base is a must see.

I'm glad the commissary was closed since we had to pick up the key at ITT. We could not have parked our 40' 5th wheel if the parking lot had been full. They need a different way of checking in and someone to police the area or make rules for pets. The camper 3 sites from us had dogs left alone without air conditioning or windows opened and barked the whole time we were there. We were planning on staying two weeks but left because we could not ride our motorcycle on base unless we took their safety course. It would take months to get a slot for the course. I didn't understand why we couldn't get a temporary pass for the two weeks, but this is something I need to take up with the Commander. I just mention it here so others will not be surprised when they can't ride a motorcycle on the base. The campground was clean and so were the bathrooms and laundry. But because of the motorcycle problem and management of the campgrounds we will not stay here again.

Check in was not bad, but parking in the main exchange parking lot was challenging at best with a 5th wheel. Fellow neighbor active duty camper, would open door and let his pit bull out to relive him self at any time day or night. Informed ITT the next day. Elane was vary helpful, was told to call Jeff Odom Outdoor manager. Came out next day and showed him. He was moved down two sites, and continued again letting his dog out. On site supervision is a must. I pointed out several short falls, that would make the camp ground form a fair camp ground. To what is accepted by active, reserve, retied and 100% disabled, a quality military camp ground. Like, Kings Bay, Pelicans Roost, and Short Stay too say a few of many. Don't get me wrong, I take my hat off for Parris Island being one of the first to have graduating students parents to say here. I hope Fort Jackson is watching. The showers were clean and roomy. Here is what I discussed, No camp host, no handicap sites, no internet, no cable, no dog walk, no cell phone reception, no dumpster locations and signs, no golden access, no late arrives cheek in procedure, no storage of campers, no prime camp sites assignment. I am cautiously hopeful that the command will try to make there camp ground up to accepted standards, as they have their golf course. As most of the retirees, reserve, 100% disabled do not play golf.
