My husband is deploying a second time to Iraq, and we have visited Pelican Roost previously as a family. This spring break I made my maiden voyage with the camper and kids on my own. I can't think of a better place to go. The folks that work at the "Roost" really care about the campers. Rita greeted us very kindly. During set-up I had a few hook-up issues and a slight sink leak. Ed, a very kind person at the Roost helped me and didn't make me feel like a total dummy. Woody is also very helpful and I appreciate his knowledge of the area. I wish I knew all their names - everyone there is nice. The Saturday ice cream socials are very nice - my family will come back from a day of fun just for the social. Our first morning there a military ship arrived home, I believe it was the USS Taylor. Seeing the sailors around the edges of the ship was very beautiful. We must have picked a busy week because we just had a ball watching all the ships coming and going. As always the beach was wonderful, a little breezy, but nice. Everything you need is almost within walking distance. The bowling alley stays busy, but it is fun. Pizza and movies are also great here and not far from the camp. Shopping is also easy either at the NEX or just a short distance away at other stores. Both are off base. We will be headed back soon.
