Nice Famcamp, older west side has character and possible shade. The east side doesn't but is more accommodating of big rigs. Functional, clean and convenient as always. Kind of out there on post but quiet and very pleasant with the lake. Level gravel (not dirt) site but it did look like some sites could present some leveling challenges. Bath / laundry ($1.50) well kept up and clean. If they had sewer hookups I could go for a longer stay. The dump station would develop short lines at some interesting times of day - not just morning. Nice park, very convenient for accessing places of interest in the area and most base facilities of interest. Amongst which are one of the largest exchanges I've seen, fair sized commissary, and a good fitness center but no indoor track. Bath / laundry ok facilities (especially the free part) but not as immaculate as some. Fair sized sites with patio and picnic table. But seemed like most (including ours) weren't all that level. One of the better we've stayed at. Very pleasant surroundings with good site separation. Easy in and out. This is from a fall weekday perspective, I could see if all facilities were being utilized bit might not be quite car peaceful and quiet as we experienced. The bugle calls were interesting tho. I'd like to know the story behind that.
Quite satisfactory camp. Nicely treed, spacious, level, gravel sites, In/out roads set up well and in pretty good shape. There is a packed dirt road out back that developed potholes after rain but you don't have too use it. Bath/shower quite industrial but clean. In the laundry dryers left something to be desired in terms of ability to get the job done. Took a week to get a $1.50 refund for one that didn't hardly heat at all. Obvious predominance...
Kind of the back of beyond for the post, for Shreveport, on the eastern side. Pretty straight forward getting there IF you come in the commercial gate. Right off I20, then a few turns and miles and you're there. Nice shaded older first come first served area and a newer reservablerea no shade. Concrete pads, picnic table, good utilties, spacious sites. Gravel roads starting some potholes, Functional, clean bathhouse/laundry. OK wifi and Verizon.
Still a good place to stay despite lack of restrooms / showers. Registration area can get a little tight if busy You could park in the open lot across the street if so. Everything worked, can't argue with the price. I got there in the morning and they were showing maybe 10 - 12 vacant sites. Hadn't stayed here since the new sites were added. Glad they were and some are reservable - with a winter 175 day length of stay limit I don't think many first come first serve sites full hook-up or not ever open. They all stayed full during our stay. I can understand why sewer wasn't put in with the new ones - major permitting issues near the lake I'm sure and then there's the work required. The only thing keeping this from a 5 is the laundry/bath faculty. It's clean and functional but dated - wear, rust, etc. One dryer was out of order most of the 2 months we were there. Otherwise, it's one of the best we've stayed at. Very pleasant park beside a small lake. Nice and quiet when we were there (non weekend). Level concrete pads, short stretch of good gravel road for approach, interior roads asphalt with good manueverability even for big rigs. A few pull-thrus, mostly back-ins. As someone pointed out, its a good deal for the area. Its also like a little island of country amidst this big metro area with widely spaced concrete sites in a grassy field. And, having water now makes longer stays easier. But all the comments about site reservation/occupancy are correct. It really helps to have stayed there previously to understand how it works. The outdoor rec folks are nice enough but they aren't there. The camphost(s) are really low...
Well its a place to be and have the essentials - pretty its not, kinda scruffy actually. Interesting as I think the rest of the post has spruced up since our last stay. Definite homesteading presence. But, everything we used worked and I didn't see any out of order signs. I had a great Verizon signal so didn't bother with the wifi or cable. Long term rates have been reduced (!) week is now $100, a month is $400. ...
What everyone else says. It is indeed one of the better FAMCAMPS we've experienced. My only divergence from other reviews is I found internet service marginal without an extender/amplifier. Famcamp wifi kept dropping connection and wasn't all that fast - we were only one site from an antenna but there was vegetation inbetween. Usually not a problem because I can use my Verizon unlimited plan but in the middle of a very large metro area my Verizon data signal...
Haven't been here in some years. Still a fine place to stay. Very well kept up, helpful, friendly staff. With the park not full wifi was adequate for most purposes - forget streaming anything tho. I can't figure out the gate issues. We saw no serpentines at Eubanks and only a shallow serpentine at Gibson. Saw city buses go through both. Yes Eubanks is tight but we've been through it before and Truman looked to be the same width...
I too didn't count on the water situation nor was I informed when making my initial reservations. Fortunately, we had enough water in the tank to get through our short stay.
