I think somebody acted on Dede's detailed May 2023 review. The 1890s bathhouse at the center of the famcamp had been demolished & hauled away when I arrived, and I'm happy for that. WATER at lots #50-59 has remained sandy for at least three years and I've learned to use a "sediment pre-filter" to capture it, followed by a regular outdoor filter, followed by my RV's manifold filter. Famcamp management (such that it is) now acknowledges they have no on-site...

The famcamp's location IVO the east side of Rapid City is the stuff of legends. We routinely(!) took a picnic lunch to Mount Rushmore where we walked the Presidential Trail and I'd film myself laughing "there goes your inheritance!" We did an overnight circle through Badlands Nat'l Park, ending back at Mount Rushmore on day #2 for the lighting ceremony. Then we did a whole day at Custer State Park and ended back at Mount Rushmore for the lighting ceremony....

Two hosts take weekly turns at the park but it seemed like they were always both available; they both helped back my big rig into its spot. "Tom" at MWR checkin is a great asset for the park! Also be sure to check out the romantic swingin' bench that overlooks the bay: it's just behind the screened gazebo. SPECIAL NOTE FOR FIREARMS OWNERS: you'll get directed into the visitor center where you'll sign paperwork then wait for a police...

I returned for my annual sabbatical and, as usual, I was the base commander by default on many nights. The price for RVs remains $7/night. Although there’s no dump station*, you can now call the Port-a-Potty company to see if they’ll service your RV when they visit the RV park. They now offer free wifi at the nearby cabins, close enough to get online from inside my RV. Cellular coverage remains decent. New road pavement leading...

I returned here for my annual sabbatical over the holidays. As usual, I was the base commander by default on many nights. The base lowered the price for RVs to $7/night! The drought is over: the boat ramp is fully submerged and you'll get your feet wet to reach the boat dock. Once again, the showers on "Signal Court" were open throughout my stay. The porta-potty in the RV park remains clean & well maintained;...

Once again, I returned here for some "me" time over the holidays. As usual, I was the base commander by default on many nights. Every site (excluding useless site #6) has both a new concrete slab and a new wood grill which is itself set in concrete. Some trees have been removed around the military hut that sits inside the park. Bad news for site #5: I detected a ground fault at the electrical box and...

This campsite is my mainstay when I want to make a long weekend out of Savannah, and this time I came over the Thanksgiving holiday for off-season touring. Drivers, please note: the reason *why* mile markers on the main road go up & down is because it restarts at a county line. The turn is exactly AT mile marker 13: if you overshoot it like I did, you can mosey down to the first street light where you'll...

I returned to this campsite for some "me" time over Christmas & the new year. I was the only RVer the whole time and I was the base commander by default on nights & weekends. Repeating what I said four years ago: "this place may not look like much on the surface but the whole installation is kept up well and it's very clean." They repaved the main road through base just before I arrived; the shoulders...

An auto accident messed up our itinerary, so we only got to stay overnight on our way home. Host fully understood our last-minute change of plans. We arrived after hours to find an updated welcome packet at the information stand. Laundry room, men's showers, women's showers all looked fantastic. Laundry soap vending machine was stocked and the community room's fridge looked & smelled very clean. FYI: our welcome packet mentioned a [trial?] program to leave...

The host graciously helped us get parked in the dark even though we arrived just before quiet time. You'll find a very healthy wireless signal at lot #42 possibly due to its location near the rec house. Excellent hometown atmosphere: everyone asks if you'll show up for the social functions. This is an excellent CG if you want to stay "only somewhat close" to historic St. Augustine, as you'll get to drive along the beachline the whole...

We took a big rig out here to collect intel on this "secret campground." To paraphrase a movie line, "it's on a penninsula that can't be found, 'cept by those who already know where it is." It's tucked away in a National Guard bivouac site -- and we had the entire installation to ourselves this weekend. It's fun to be the base commander! :-) This might be the cheapest place near Augusta during the Masters...

Joggers: take the crosswalk at the CG entry. If you turn RIGHT: it's 0.27M to a connector road that is 0.14M long, so three round trips is just over 1.5M. If you turn LEFT: you'll link up with a clean asphalt jog/bike path that skirts the base gate for *miles* with diverse scenery. FYI, a technician raised another wi-fi router at the back side of the CG during our stay.

Reservations were a good idea in early November because of hunting season. The CG employee thoughtfully phoned ahead to let Dock & Lori know we were on our way in. When we pulled up, there was a wedding party across the street at lakeside, which gave us an immediate clue to the lush scenery. Most (all?) sites are nicely angled to the road, not perpendicular. Bath house was clean, bright, and stocked. The dump site...

This was our second short-stay (in as many months) at this CG. We agree with other reviewers, this place gets a big thumbs-up. The host was attentative & knowledgeable; the replacement host hadn't taken over yet, but he came by anyway to introduce himself! Was crowded in early October due to snowbirds who were migrating to Florida. You'll drive 20-25 to see Charleston, but it's worth it (caution: full-size pickups MUST avoid the short-term parking lot...
