Couple of changes to above instructions. Going thru the commercial gate inspection is only required when base is on highest alert status, other then that just enter the main gate for West Ft. Hood off Clark Rd. Another change is that weapons are now allowed as long as unloaded and in a locked weapons case while on base, or campground. Also the west Ft Hood fam camp does accept reservations (in fact I made mine 6 months in advance)...
Campground is in desperate need of a competent grounds keeper. Been here 2 weeks and lawn was long when we arrived and is still un mowed. Piles of leaves left from last year still piled up, they did work for 2 hrs on Sunday and cleaned up 3 of about 20 piles, weed wacker came thru today and cleaned around every other bar-b-que stand n then left. Staying up at the new sites on top of the hill. All site 39 - 56 are brand new and paved with large concrete pads, now the issues. Mostly long term/permanent campers here, some actually think they actually own the place thing you that you dog can not pee along side the road. People might wave as they drive by but we still feel like an interloper in their private relm.

Stayed here for a week and will be back. Yes there are some issues i.e. the utilities hook-ups are all screwy i.e. our water and elect is on the right side of the coach and the sewer's on the left side, no big deal just run hose n power cords under the coach.
